Iโve used an essential oil diffuser at home for years now, and I love that it can serve so many different purposes. I can diffuse oils to feel calmer, keep germs at bay, or simply because it smells nice!
But diffusing was always an at-home practice, until recently that is!
Diffusing On The Go
A few months back, I realized that since the small bamboo diffuser I was using the time had a USB cord, there was no reason I couldnโt use it in my car if I wanted to! It was small enough to fit in my cupholder, and could plug it right into my carโs USB charging port.
To see this essential oil car diffuser in action, watch the video at the end of the post!
But that system wasn’t perfect, because using a diffuser in your car that needs water in it requires a bit of forethought and finagling. Luckily for me, it wasn’t long after that I discovered an even easier way to diffuse essential oils when Iโm on the road: a dedicated car diffuser!
No water, no worriesโall you have to do is add a few drops of essential oils to the felt pad inside and plug it into your car’s 12V power socket! It even has a USB port on the front you can use to charge your phone and other devices.
Iโm not the only one who uses and loves this diffuser โ just check out some of these reviews!
“The car diffuser is one of my favorite items from Jillee. It makes the whole vehicle smell wonderful!”
Ronda H.
“I have had a hanging card with a scent previously in my car, but it had lost its scent, so I was glad to get this diffuser that can be used over & over again with various scents! Gives a great smell as soon as the car door is opened!”
M.L.
“This little diffuser operates efficiently and produces a light aroma from my lavender essential oil. Before I got this I had an air freshener in every air vent. I enjoy this one much more.”

There are plenty of benefits you can enjoy from diffusing therapeutic essential oils in your car. Here are just a few of the reasons why Iโve been enjoying it so much, and why you might enjoy it too!
4 Good Reasons To Use A Car Diffuser
1. Stay Alert
Diffusing peppermint oil in your car is a great way to keep yourself alert while driving, and it can give you a natural energy boost too! Whether youโre crossing errands off your list or
across the country, peppermint oil makes a great car companion!
(And as a bonus, peppermint can also help settle queasy tummies if you have passengers who are prone to car sickness.)
2. Better Air Quality
Diffusing essential oils can help you fight germs, allergens, and other unsavory characters that may be floating around in the air inside your car. Adding a couple of drops of Defend blend or All Clear to my car diffuser gives me peace of mind that I’m breathing clean air (especially when the air quality outside isn’t so good!)
3. Keep Your Cool
Back when I was a TV producer, my commute was an hour and a half in total every day. And while Iโm not an angry or easily frustrated person by nature, some of those commutes brought me perilously close to โroad rage!โ
Perhaps if I had a car diffuser at the time, I would have had a much easier time maintaining a positive attitude! Adding a couple of drops of lemon oil or sweet orange oil to your car diffuser can help promote a sunny disposition and reduce those feelings of frustrations.
Even if you don’t commute, we all know that even running errands can be plenty stressful! Between navigating packed parking lots and that nagging feeling that you might be forgetting something, diffusing a calming oil like Calm Mind can help you keep your cool while you check off your to-do list.
4. Natural Air Freshener
Not only are most car air fresheners loaded with synthetic fragrances, they can also be extremely potent. Itโs enough to give anyone a headache!
Diffusing a fresh-smelling blend like Simple Clean in your car is a great way to freshen the air naturally. Diffusers also make it much easier to control how much scent is produced because you can unplug it at any time.
Bonus Tips For Car Diffusers
- Less Is More. Essential oils are extremely concentrated, so a little bit goes a long way. Start by adding one or two drops to your car diffuser, and diffuse for short periods of time to avoid overdoing it.
- Freshen It Up. While essential oils are potent, they also dissipate quickly compared to synthetic fragrances. Add a drop of oil to your car diffuser about once a day to keep the fragrance fresh.
- Human Passengers Only. Diffusing in an enclosed space is fine for humans as long as there is adequate ventilation, but itโs not good for pets. Reserve your car diffuser for drives with human passengers only.
Which essential oils would you diffuse in your car?

Jillee, if you have visited a car wash lately, you might see a stand by the register with all kinds of car related items. There are strips that you can buy and put under your seat. Are those just felt? If so, can you buy felt and put oils on that?

I ended throwing it away. This one LOOKS a little different, so I may try it again to see if it works.

Unfortunately I couldnโt pull it off because my dad spotted it and yanked it out of the vent. Heโs one of those who always have the AC in the car cranked up on Summer trips to keep himself awake while driving.
